He joined the Naval Air Corps in May, 1945 where he began his career in aviation. He later attended Seton Hall College under the G.I. Bill.

Ed earned his commercial pilot's license and began working for Sky Coach on the East Coast in 1948. In 1951, he flew as a co-pilot for US Air Coach out of Burbank, California. He became District Sales Manager for Transocean Air Lines in Los Angeles in 1954 and served in the same capacity in Honolulu in 1956 and in San Francisco in 1957. Transocean Air was the first tourist flight operation to Hawaii. When Ed transferred to New York in 1958, he became Director of Domestic and Pacific Sales.

In 1959, he and his wife Lynn, a graduate of Pratt Institute, opened their first retail travel agency, Pleasant Travel Service in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. In 1962, they moved the family business to the West Coast, to better serve the destination of Hawaii. In 1992, Pleasant Holidays, LLC reached total revenues of approximately $500 million annually.

THE HOGAN FAMILY FOUNDATION, INC
In 1998, Ed and Lynn Hogan established The Hogan Family Foundation with the mission to promote a greater understanding of the importance of the entrepreneurial spirit through the creation and operation of educational, civic-minded and humanitarian programs designed to encourage a more productive and contributory society.

The Foundation's contribution to education focuses on encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit with the funding of programs in Entrepreneurial Studies at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington and Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii, now into its 10th year with outstanding students.

Humanitarian programs include the Hogan Angel Flight Program, assisting with travel arrangements for needy medical patients with a contribution of a quarter million dollars annually.

The Hogan Family Foundation has also made cultural contributions with the building of the Gardens of the World, a 4.5-acre community park in Thousand Oaks, California, which features different types of gardens found around the world, as well as, a series of entertaining jazz band concerts and other community fundraising events.

In 2005, the Foundation built Rancho St. Francis in Hidden Valley, California, a 23-acre facility home of 15 Hands Rescue Sanctuary, providing shelter for abandoned and abused horses. The facility also hosts the St. Francis Rangers Program, which teaches underprivileged children the care and riding of horses and participation in equestrian show competitions. Later, in 2006 they began lessons for Casa Pacifica a Residential Facility for Abused and Abandoned Children. Casa Pacifica's medical staff reports the horse program has contributed greatly to the mental and physical health of their children.

The Foundation opened a second ranch in 2007; a 14-acre facility called Rancho Nuevo in the Santa Rosa Valley 12 miles from Rancho St. Francis with the blessing of St. Francis of Assisi and a duplicate 7 1/2 bronze statue beyond the entrance gate just like Rancho St. Francis. Here, the focus is also on horse rescue and rehabilitation. Glenn Hogan, as the Director of this ranch resides there and cares for approximately 40 rescued horses, two cart-pulling donkeys, seven sheep and a ram, three Farrell cats (rodent control) including 12 mini-horses. Glenn reached out to ARC (Adult Retarded Citizens) which come to the ranch five times a week and walk the mini horses and rescued dogs that we have at this ranch. Also, Glenn works with Day Break Community for abused and abandoned women, four times a week, who enjoy grooming and riding in the arena. Glenn, being a board member of the Ventura County Red Cross, instituted a riding program for children whose parents are in the military and deployed overseas. This program is growing rapidly and from the digital pictures that are sent overseas showing the children riding we receive great comments from parents.

Other animal-welfare programs operated by the Foundation include Lifeline 4 Paws and Big Paws 4 a Cause. Both provide medical assistance and adoption service for abandoned and abused dogs.

Under the chairmanship of Ed and Lynn Hogan, The Hogan Family Foundation also continues to develop new programs of a philanthropic nature. The Hogan's desire to "give back" to their community and society as a whole is a gesture of gratitude for the success they have enjoyed in their lives.

Since it's founding, the Foundation has invested approximately $67 million in its educational and charitable programs.
